Project | Supporting the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digitalization in its role as a model ministry for the public administration digitalization in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia |
Consultation Period | March 2018 through the end of 2021 |
Result | Successful introduction of e-administration in the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and implementation of communication and collaboration tools |
The MWIDE digital 2022 programme has two central goals, creating the framework conditions for modern working practices as well as digitizing all aspects of the operations performed by the North Rhine-Westphalia Ministry of Economic Affairs. This includes the digitization of business processes and external interfaces as well as working environments and equipment.
The programme is based on three pillars: E-administration, Work 4.0 and Business Process Optimisation.
E-administration has been successfully introduced in all departments of the Ministry of Economic Affairs as a pilot project. New communication, collaboration technologies and digital tools have been implemented, creating a modern administrative workplace.
The E-administration in the Ministry of Economic Affairs went live on 22 June 2020, meeting the requirements of the North Rhine-Westphalia E-Government Act sooner than originally planned. All of the MWIDE’s internal processes are now fully digital. The ministry has positioned itself as a modern, service-oriented service provider who offers transparent and target-oriented bureaucratic processes to the citizens and companies of the state. In order to prepare all staff of the Ministry of Economic Affairs for this new work culture, they were provided with department-specific and cross-departmental virtual training courses, a direct hotline, field-related training videos, an E-processing pilot program, and leadership webinars in the three to four months before the launch.
The MWIDE digital 2022 programme’s strategy to create a model digital ministry is based on a combination of agile project work (as per PRINCE2 2017) with agile methods. Efficient program management (as per MSP) ensures its implementation.
